One year on in 1998, we had already grown with a few more members, some new grades and joined by our 2nd instructor, Ant Tickner.

Twenty years ago Gerry Reilly launched the first World Taekwondo / Olympic style Taekwondo club in Basingstoke and Deane.  The first class took place on Sunday 9th November 1997 at Overton Recreation Centre. Even by the end of the first year we had a few more students. As Bluewave with our focus on providing excellent facilities and training in Basingstoke we continue to grow providing the very best of Taekwondo using the latest coaching methods in a fun, safe and friendly environment. Today we run 13 classes a week (and hopefully more to come), monthly specialist poomsae competition training and senior belt training, host British Taekwondo coaching courses for the south and have a rapidly growing membership of all ages.

On Saturday 4th November we will be running a celebration event to commorate our first twenty years.  Monthly Competition Poomsae training will run from 2.00-4.00pm.  Then from 4.30-6.30pm we will have a fun training session open to all our members whether you have been with us a day or twenty years, all ages (including KickStars) and grades.  After the training we will move next door to the Corner Cafe for a social event from 6.30 until 8.30pm.  This will include games, quizes, a raffle and buffet.  The training and social will be free (except for drinks – there will be a cash bar), but donations will be appreciated and these will go into helping with upgrading equipment in 2018.  Please let us know if you are coming by sending an email to info@bluewave.org.uk, registering for the Facebook event or signing the sheets in VBC.  Knowing approximate numbers will help us plan for both the training and the social.

We look forward to see lots of people along to help celebrate the first twenty years and look forward to the next twenty!
