Taekwondo Chungdokwan Great Britain held their Annual Championships on Saturday 29th March. Being a local event for the club, this was an opportunity for many of our students to participate and with 16 competitors across both Poomsae and Kyrougi it was going to be a long day for the coaches and competitors.
It was day of much success with a total of 13 medals across both Poomsae and Kyrougi – 6 gold (Amy in both, Neo in both, Alex in sparring and Kamil in sparring), 3 silver (Cullen, Mujahid and Kasper all in sparring) and 4 bronze (Rachel and Coleen in poomsae and Callum and Sean in sparring). A statement of how much the students and the club have developed in the 12 months. The hard work in the classes is paying off and all the competitors should be very proud of their performances.
A special mention to our Peewee competitors – Cullen, Kacper and Sean, our next generation, all of whom had several matches to achieve their medals. Not just showing the quality of their Taekwondo in achieving these results, but also demonstrating their stamina and determination.
As well as competing in the Poomsae, Sian and Bradley spend the day as Class 3 officials, working hard to keep the day running. We were pleased to see Bradley complete the practical aspect of the Class 3 referee course and in doing so, giving the club three British Taekwondo qualified Class 3 officials. Congratulations Bradley.
Thank you to the coaches of the day – Lynne, Coleen and Callum, and a thank you to Rachel in supporting the coaches through the day , organising all sorts of practicalities for us to be able to focus on the competitors.
